Time Squeeze

I really like this statement in Chapter 3 on page 42: "With our concern for speed, efficiency, and squeezing every second 'til it squeals, we shortchange ourselves most, perhaps, in the missed opportunities for real reflection." You can keep up a frantic pace for only so long before something gives; too tight of a schedule not only leaves no time for reflection, but also leaves no time for flexibility when things don't go as planned.

I especially like the part on page 45 where they talk about giving ourself space during the tutoring session for reflection and on page 46 where they talk about the "cultural impulse to fill gaps in dialogue," both of which tell me that reflection should be part of any collaboration. Rather than waiting till after working with someone to reflect on the session, it is possible to pause a few minutes during the session for some reflection that might enrich the rest of the session.
