Misconceptions
I have to admit, until yesterday I had no idea how much the writing center had to offer... and I'm a Rhetoric and Comp major. I, too, thought that it was mainly an opportunity to have a skilled individual read over a draft, with the intent of fixing grammatical errors and checking for basic coherence. Now that I gather that this is NOT supposed to be the case, I'm wondering even more how there came to be a writing center flier with the words "...and a tutorial facility for those with special problems in composition" on it. Because, if I had read that statement a week ago, I wouldn't have thought twice; in fact, my suppositions about what a writing center does would have been confirmed. It seems very strange that a program centered around the fact that all words have meaning could carelessly misrepresent one of their own.
